Galle national museum of Sri Lanka

The Galle National Museum is one of Sri Lanka's significant public galleries, and is situated inside the most established standing Dutch structure in the Galle Fort. Set up by Sri Lanka's Department of National Museums in 1986, it has an assortment of presentations that grandstands objects from Sri Lanka's time under Portuguese, Dutch and afterward British standard, just as a scope of significant antiques acquired from Southern Sri Lanka. These incorporate hardware from on board the Dutch ships that came into Galle's harbor, porcelain curios and a scope of weapons utilized by the Dutch officers. 


The structure was built in 1656 by the Dutch as a commissariat store, directing the arrangement of provisions for the Dutch post that was positioned at the Fort. A while later, it turned into the pool space for joined New Oriental Hotel (presently called the Amangalla Hotel), prior to being redesigned into a gallery that would bring issues to light on the conventional social legacy of Southern Sri Lanka. 


The historical center's first exhibition grandstands assortments from the nearby cabin industry, for example, the formation of turtle-shell adornments, the conventional weaving of Sri Lanka's beeralu trim, and the creating of the island's acclaimed cut wooden veils. The subsequent display holds furniture and weaponry from the Dutch time frame. The last display – called the Sri Lanka China Friendship Gallery – is given to the set of experiences and archeological proof of exchange relations between Sri Lanka and China.



Opened from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm from Tuesday to Saturday.
